Say What Matters
By Sutton Burke, MS, LCPC ·
Some conversations are difficult because we don’t know what to say. Others are difficult because we know exactly what we need to say — and we’re afraid of what might happen if we say it. So we wait. We soften until the message disappears. Overexplain. Avoid. Shut down. Say yes when we mean no. Sutton explores what happens inside us when a conversation feels threatening and how emotional regulation, self-awareness, listening, boundaries, and repair can help us stay present enough to say what matters.
